Meet Don Johnson

Don has extensive experience in business and contract law, business and real estate transactions, landlord/tenant issues, regular ethics training and certifications, and has been a member of the Stroudsburg Zoning Hearing Board since 2021. He has the education, experience, and qualifications to be your next Magisterial District Judge in Stroudsburg. More importantly, he has the independence, integrity, and impartiality to thoroughly commit to steadfastly upholding highest standards of conduct in the court. He possesses  the principled integrity, personal character, and fitness to serve the court with dignity.

Education & Professional Background

  • Don was born and raised in Stroudsburg, along with his 2 brothers. They participated in scouting and many sports in Stroudsburg. His parents, Bill and Rita, were longtime business owners, operating the Stroudsburg School of Cosmetology for 40 years. His mother was a longtime volunteer with many community organizations. His father was the original President of the Burnley Workshop in 1971, and was then President of Pocono Community Services, which later merged with Fitzmaurice Community Services. These non-profit organizations focus on vocational and living services and support for people with behavioral health and intellectual disabilities. Our parents taught us the importance of community involvement with care and compassion.

  • As a working student, Don graduated from San Diego State University in 1994 with a bachelor’s degree in International Business with an emphasis on Business Management and German Language. He participated in the California State University International Programs in a year-long study abroad program at the Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen.

  • Don is 1984 graduate of the Stroudsburg High School, and was a student at Millersville University. He took a break from college to gain work experience and worked as a mechanic, an automotive machinist, and in home construction, before returning to college in 1989.

  • Upon moving back to the area and living in Easton, PA, Don worked for 11 years in telecommunications sales and marketing. He was in Murray Hill, New Jersey at Lucent Technologies/Bell Labs, before taking a position as an account manager and sales director for telecommunications call center systems at Digisoft Computers in New York, NY .

  • In 2004, he became a commercial property owner and manager in Tatamy, PA, and ran successful businesses there. In 2005, he became a licensed Pennsylvania Realtor and sold new home construction and homesites for Target Homes in East Stroudsburg. As a PA Realtor, Don completed extensive coursework on real estate law and transactions. As a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Realtors, he completes ongoing continuing education with emphasis on real estate law. As a member of the National Association of Realtors, he completes regular required training on the Code of Ethics & Standards of Practice.

  • In 2009, Don purchased and managed residential rental properties and began providing business and digital technology consulting services for various clients, with an emphasis on promotional event staffing with Street Teams USA. He has continued his business and digital technology consulting service through the present time.

  • In 2015, Don and his wife opened The Charcuterie restaurant on Main Street in Stroudsburg, and operated a successful business there through 2018.

  • He has been a Realtor with Keller Williams Real Estate in Stroudsburg since 2020.

  • Don has been a member of the Stroudsburg Zoning Hearing Board since 2021. In this quasi-judicial position, he hears requests for variances, special exceptions, challenges to the ordinance, and appeals of the zoning officer’s decision.

  • He has served on various political campaign committees for candidates  and party committees since 2015. (In accordance with the standards of judicial conduct for candidates, he has resigned from all political committees.)

  • Don will be participating in the 5-week certification course at the Pennsylvania Judicial Center in Harrisburg from the end of May through the end of June, 2025. Magisterial District Judges must complete this course of training and instruction in the duties of their respective offices and pass an examination prior to assuming office.

Personal Information

Don Johnson was born and raised in Stroudsburg and has lived in the area for nearly his entire life. He and his wife, Tarah Probst, have been together since 2010, and were married in 2017. Don has 4 adult children, Ayla, Jack, Lili and Ray, a granddaughter, Kennedy, and a stepson at home, Hunter Probst. His family is his greatest treasure in life.
